DIY Garden Marquee Wedding, Staintondale near Scarborough: Katherine & Mike
I think this was one of the most fun & relaxed weddings I’ve ever shot! On a hot Saturday in June 2019 Katherine & Mike tried the knot at Staintondale church and hosted their DIY wedding reception at her Mum’s house set in the North York moors just near Scarborough.
What I think I loved most about this wedding was it’s pure honest charm. All the details, decorations, food, flowers, entertainment, transport etc were all provided by friends and family. It felt like every single guest had a role to play in their wedding and it gave the day so much more meaning, emotion and sentiment.
At this time of self isolation, financial worry and economic uncertainty I wonder what effect this Corona virus will have on the weddings in 2021 and beyond?!? That’s partly why I wanted to blog Katherine & Mike’s amazing day as I think they demonstrate perfectly how a large scale wedding can be done on a smaller scale budget. Now, I know, obviously they were lucky enough to have the land and her Mum’s (absolutely stunning) garden to use as a backdrop but you can easily hire a field to hold a wedding in nowadays Fields to rent website.
I hope this wedding gives brides and grooms-to-be inspiration on planning their big day especially if they find their wedding budget might have decreased dramatically due to the aftermath of Covid-19. Who knows what going to happen in the future and to the economy but I hope this virus doesn’t deter too many couples from tying the knot, what the world really needs right now is LOVE, TOGETHERNESS & A GREAT BIG PARTY and what better way to do this than to throw a wedding!
