Donna & Lee – East Riddlesden Hall
A Golf and Sewing Inspired Wedding
Donna first contacted me two years before her wedding, it always amazes me how organised some bride &
grooms are but now the day has been and gone I can totally understand why! Donna (an extremely
talented costume maker) must had put months & months into hand making soooo many amazing decorations,
the bridemaids & flowergirl dressers & much much more. This wedding was a perfect balance of artistic
vision, fun (check out the crazy golf pics!!!) and personalisation.
For the morning prep I headed to heavenly Haworth which always makes my heart smile. Donna had
cleverly booked ‘The Old Registry’ B&B to get glammed up in. I was already loving this wedding day
nod! I have to say the staff there were so lovely and accommodating letting me photograph Donna’s bridal
pieces around the hotel. The colourful bridal bouquet was a particular favourite shot of mine (I placed
it next to the antique Singer sewing machine, my little nod to Donna’s profession, pat on the back for me,
he he!) I was so thrilled to be able to finally combine forces with Rachel from Owl House Flowers. I’ve
admired her work for years, all flowers are organically grown in her garden and true to the time of year.
Her floral creations are natural perfection!
On another hill in the Pennines, the lovely Emily was capturing Lee and his groomtribe doing whatever
men do (usually shower, dress and hit the pub!) at Leeming Wells Hotel. Simples!
The big day took place at East Riddlesden Hall. Rachel from Simply Vintage Events had done an
outstanding job (as always!) of making the barn look incredible. Donna arrived in an old fashioned car
from Cartwright Cars, who kindly hung around for photos during the reception.
Just before the main event, Steven Heath provided an acoustic soundtrack to the guests arrival.
Booked to cover the day, bless him, this was another wedding (including ours!) he had to stand in the hot
direct sunlight and entertain like a trooper, what a pro! Steven musically accompanied the bridal party’s
arrival up the aisle with his melodic tones. Now, there’s not many things I haven’t seen at a wedding
but this was a first; the flower girl was wheeled up the aisle in her own personalised cart, too cute
for words! After the ‘I do’s’ and ‘don’ts’ (only kidding, that’s never actually happened!) it was onto the
formal gardens for the reception.
Donna & Lee lead their wedding party up the gravel path (love it when couples do this, makes great
photos, see the top image) behind the hall where they were greeted with refreshments from Eat Me Drink Me. After some mingling, boozing & munching we cracked on with the group photos. It was a glorious June afternoon
surrounded by stunning gardens, what more could you ask for on a summer wedding day!
The wedding breakfast was kicked off with the speeches then followed by the tastiest wedding meal, I do
love EMDM food (I’ll start the diet tomorrow!) After being fed and watered Donna & Lee were up for
some private portraits around the grounds. I have to say this is my ultimate time of day for piccies. The
light is (usually) great, couples are feeling relaxed and the time pressures of the day have passed. Joining
us were the videographers; C-Motion Films.
Upon returning to the evening reception there was a surprise treat in store for the guests. Before I reveal
you might want to PUTT the kettle on, grab a cup of TEE, PARdon my terrible clue jokes, they’re a bit
ROUGH, I’m a FAIRWAY from being a comedian, I should just BUNKER down and stick to my day job
of getting people to watch the BIRDIE! That’s it, I’m out, you guessed it… yes, they had crazy golf (the
groom’s a golf fiend) provided by the very lovely chaps from Crazy 9 Golf Entertainment.
As it was the longest day of the year, the celebrations carried on in the glowing evening sun. The
cake was cut then seamlessly onto the first dance outside, played live on guitar by Steven, it brought a
tear to my eye at the beauty of it all, god I love weddings!!!
HUGE CONGRATULATIONS Donna & Lee, thank you for putting so much faith into me for capturing
your wedding, it was so damn perfect, you lucky lucky people!
